Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Partylist Representative-elect Leila de Lima said that the meeting of the House prosecution team of the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte is expected to take place "soon".
"I have no notice yet but I expect it soon", de Lima said in a chance interview at the sidelines of the proclamation of the winning partylists on Monday.
The former justice secretary reiterated that the "impeachment proceedings has a sacred constitutional process that should not have a room for chaos or theatrics".
"It is an important discussion that will follow due process, rule of law, principles within the constitution, specifically the truth, justice, and accountability" De Lima said.
The Senate will convene on June 2 to tackle the rules of the impeachment court, which is expected to be convened when the 20th Congress will begin sessions late July.
In a separate interview, Akbayan Partylist Representative-elect Chiel Diokno said the impeachment trial is a "civilized legal process where the whole country will know the truth".
"That is why we support the impeachment because firstly we really want to know the truth, secondly we want accountability, and thirdly we want justice for the country", added Diokno, who with De Lima were tapped by Speaker Martin Romualdex to join the House prosecution panel.
De Lima added that "the most important for the prosecution is to present clear and strong evidence" while it's "natural" for them to speculate on who those who will possibly vote for the acquittal or the conviction of Duterte as it's not just the senators judges who will decide on the impeachment but the whole nation as well.
