Comelec to proclaim 12 winning senators Saturday

2025/5/17 英字

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will formally proclaim the 12 winning senators on Saturday, the fastest proclamation that will be done in the history of Philippine polls.

It was announced by Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia in a press conference in Manila on Friday.

"By tomorrow we are just waiting for the formal recommendation of the supervisory committee, they will recommend the proclamation of 12 winning senatorial candidates based on the ranking yesterday and we will have the proclamation by 3 pm tomorrow," he said.

"Before the proclamation of senators we will come out with a resolution concerning the proclamation which will likewise (be) read during the proclamation proper tomorrow," he added.

Based on the National Certificate of Canvass released by the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), the 12 winning senators include Senator Bong Go, ex-Senator Bam Aquino, Senator Ronald Dela Rosa, ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Erwin Tulfo, former Senator Kiko Pangilinan, Sagip Partylist Rep, Rodante Marcoleta, former Senator Ping Lacson, ex-Senator Tito Sotto, Senator Pia Cayetano, Las Pinas Rep. Camille Villar, Senator Lito Lapid and Senator Imee Marcos.

Five are re-electionist senators, four are returning senators and three are from the House of Representatives.

As only five of the senatorial bets endorsed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. entered the winning circle, Alyansa Campaign Manager Toby Tiangco blamed the poor ranking of some senatorial bets under their party to the initiator of the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

"The problem started when the House of Representatives filed the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara because in the October surveys, nine candidates under the Alyansa entered Mindanao. The survey after the impeachment before the incident of bringing the former President to the Hague, it went down to four. Just because of the impeachment only four candidates of Alyansa gained votes from Mindanao," he said.

"They pushed the impeachment and that was the effect and it was followed by the (arrest and surrender of former President Rodrigo Duterte to) The Hague. So the people were thinking that the government is targeting them, after the impeachment of the daughter, the next surrender of the father," he added.

Garcia also noted that the proclamation of the winning senators which will be done five days after the election and the partylist which might be proclaimed by Monday will be the fastest in the history of the Philippine election

"We will come out with the resolution concerning the allocation of seats for the partylist. It will also be contained in the resolution and therefore that will likewise be read on Monday in case we will have the proclamation on Monday," he said.

He also explained that in case there is an intra-party dispute within the winning partylist, the commission can proclaim and issue a certificate of proclamation to the winning partylist but the certificate of proclamation for its nominee will not be issued until the dispute will be resolved.
