As the result of the midterm poll became more evident on Tuesday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called for unity among the newly elected officials of the government whereas Vice President Sara Duterte invited the Filipinos to support "a powerful and principled opposition" to shape a "fair and inclusive" future.

"Thank you very much to every Filipino who cast their votes. Once again, our democracy has renewed itself?peacefully, orderly and with dignity. It is both a celebration of continuity and a call to act on the real challenges our people face," he said.

"To those who supported the candidates of Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas, thank you for your trust. We may not have won every seat, but our work and mission continue. To those who did not make it, your courage to stand for public service is deeply respected. Public service goes beyond elections. The work of nation-building needs all who are ready to serve," he added.

Marcos also extended his hand to all the winning candidates regardless of their party or coalition noting that "governance is a shared responsibility, a mission that requires unity and burden sharing for the common good."

"To the newly elected, regardless of party or coalition, I extend my hand. Let us move forward together?with open minds and a common purpose," he said.

On the other hand, Duterte noted that although the outcome of the election was not what their team had hoped for, the vice president invited all the citizens to join them in "building a powerful and principled opposition".

"I acknowledge the results of the election and express my deep gratitude to all the supporters who stood with us throughout this journey. While the outcome was not what we had hoped for, our commitment to the people remains unwavering. We will continue to hold the government accountable, advocate for the issues that matter, and work tirelessly to serve as a strong and constructive opposition," she said.

"This is not the end?it’s a renewed beginning. We invite all citizens?regardless of background or past affiliation?to join us in building a powerful and principled opposition. Together, we can shape a future that is fair, inclusive, and just. Stand with us," she added. Robina Asido/DMS
