Palawan municipality declares state of calamity due to floods

The municipal council of Aborlan, Palawan declared a state of calamity due to floods that began late last week due to the shear line.

Mayor Jaime Ortega signed Sangguniang Bayan Resolution 40 declaring a state of calamity causing damage in property and agriculture.

In a phone interview with Karenn Dondon, Aborlan Municipal Information Officer, she said this will enable the municipality to use its quick response fun to by food and medicine, and to provide immediate assistance to the affected families.

Some 1,004 families consisting of over 3.000 individuals have been evacuated since February 9, but the majority have returned to their homes.

Only one evacuation center remains open in Aborlan, serving an inland community that still experienced waist-level flooding, Dondon said. Yzabela Velez-White/DMS
