Sudden Marcos burial means “we were cheated all over again”: Robredo

2016/11/20 英字

Even in death, late strongman Ferdinand Marcos Sr. cheated Filipinos with the "surprise" interment of his remains at Libingan ng mga Bayani on Friday, Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo said Friday.

Robredo, a staunch critic of the Marcoses, criticized burial of the Marcos which was initially kept under wraps with no previous announcements.

"We knew it was going to happen but we never imagined that it would be conducted hurriedly and secretly. My feeling is that we were cheated all over again," she told reporters on Saturday.

Robredo said she was stunned with the rushed interment, criticizing the Marcos family who did not even wait for a final resolution from the Supreme Court which voted 9-5 in favor of his burial.

"We have a process that we are following and waiting, the motion for reconsideration. The decision is not yet final and executory," she said.

Robredo on Friday delivered a strong statement against the burial of the person accused of atrocities and corruption during his 20-year rule.

"Like a thief in the night, the Marcos family deliberately hid the information of burying former President Marcos today from the Filipino people," Robredo said.

"We are disturbed that this happened in coordination with AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines and PNP (Philippine National Police) demonstrating further that the judicial process has been thoroughly disregarded," she said. Emmanuel Tupas/DMS
