Operatives from the Bureau of Immigration on Thursday captured a Japanese wanted by authorities in Japan for allegedly embezzling 400 million yen or about $3.8 million in an electronic scam at a bank.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the fugitive was arrested somewhere in Binangonan town, Rizal.

The Japanese was arrested on the strength of a warrant of deportation which Morente signed pursuant to a summary deportation order from the bureau’s board of commissioners issued against the him last October 6 for being an undocumented and undesirable alien

Immigration spokesperson Ma. Antoinette Mangrobang said the law enforcement operation against the Japanese happened from 9 am to 4 pm. .

Records show the Japanese government canceled the person’s passport November last year after he was declared undesirable by the immigration bureau for posing a risk to public safety and security.

The Japanese fled to the Philippines last year after learning of his indictment on large-scale fraud charges to avoid arrest and prosecution for his crime.

"A team of Japanese policemen will be in Manila to fetch and escort him to Tokyo where he will stand trial for his crimes," Morente said. Emmanuel Tupas/DMS
