Vice President Robredo thinks goal of ridding drugs, crimes in 6 month not achievable

Despite the government's aggressiveness, Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo is pessimistic the Duterte administration's goal of suppressing illegal drugs and crimes could be achieved in six months.

In an ambush interview in Naga City on Friday, Robredo thinks with four months to go, the government's target is not achievable.

"I think six months would not be enough," Robredo said during the inauguration of the Naga River Revetment Project at Magsaysay Avenue Wharf.

Robredo is worried about the nearly 700,000 drug surrenderers as there is no national template on what to do with them.

Citing records from the Department of Health, she said 10 percent or about 70,000 of the drug surrenderers are the only ones which needs to be committed in rehabilitation centers.

"What are we going to do with the remaining 630,000?," said Robredo.

But she understood that President Rodrigo Duterte can't do it alone which is why the he needs the assistance he can get.

"That is why I volunteered our office to be an active part in community rehabilitation," said Robredo.

A total of 1,046 people have been killed in anti-drug police operations, according to the latest statistics of the Philippine National Police.

The arrested drug suspects totaled 15,681 while the surrenderers are at 690,483. Emmanuel Tupas
