The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is looking into the possible involvement of foreign groups in the rally at the EDSA People Power Monument noting the "unusual support system" provided for the participants.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Acting Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad said the military is "checking all possible leads especially when it comes to funding if these (rallies) were done by domestic or maybe even for all we know foreign groups."
"The way it was organized, the support system, the food and the other ancillary equipment or facilities needed, it was organized, it was grand, the preparation was grand. So we are checking this," he said.
"Without going to specific names or brands, you will be able to see based on the catering or the food provided. This will give us an indication of the support system or the funding of the activity," he added
Trinidad stressed that the AFP are looking at "all avenues, all areas to ensure that domestic concerns will remain domestic and will not be influenced by foreign funding."
Trinidad said during the protest led by United People's Initiative (UPI) in the EDSA People Power Monument over the weekend "there were again calls for the AFP to do unconstitutional actions."
However, he reiterated the statement of AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner that "the AFP will not involve itself in any unconstitutional activity not during his watch."
Amid the political noises that are dividing the Filipinos, Trinidad reminded the public not to forget that China "will do everything under their means to sow discord within Philippine society."
"Our neighbor is a large country being run by the Chinese Communist Party that will do everything under their means to sow discord within Philippine society. United front works are very active in the country. We have seen different issues, disinformation, misinformation, malinformation being raised against the government," he said.
"We have seen local chief executives being elected with dubious backgrounds. We have seen a lot of infiltration in our society. We don't have to look far. Part of their rule book is to make us fight among ourselves. To infiltrate Philippine society and to destroy us from within. Let us not be distracted from the bigger picture. Ito ang mas pressing at mas nakakatakot," he added. Robina Asido/DMS
