President Ferdinand Marcos Jr accepted the resignation of Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and Budget and Management Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a late Monday afternoon briefing.
''Both officials have respectfully offered and tendered their resignations out of delicadeza after their departments were mentioned in allegations related to the flood control anomaly currently under investigation and in recognition of their responsibility to allow the administration to address the matter appropriately,'' said Castro.
Bersamin, a former chief justice, was replaced by Finance Secretary Ralph Recto while Undersecretary Rolando Toledo will be Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Budget and Management.
Frederick Go, a special assistant for investment and economic affairs, will become the new finance secretary. His replacement was not announced.
This announcement came as Vice President Sara Duterte said in her video message that Marcos ''faces a profound crisis of confidence, especially in the way these corruption investigations are being handled, which appear to lack both direction and resolve.''
''We also seek clear answers on how a budget that deprived Filipinos of billions and billions of pesos was approved under his watch,'' said Duterte.
''The President expects other Cabinet officials who know that they are involved in the corruption scandal to also submit their courtesy resignation out of delicadeza,'' said Castro. DMS
