2025/11/14 英字

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Charlito Martin Mendoza, a lawyer and a licensed geodetic engineer, as the new commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), replacing lawyer Romeo Lumagui Jr.

Mendoza took his oath of office before Marcos in a simple ceremony held at the Study Room of Malacañang Palace on Thursday.

Prior to his appointment, Mendoza served as Undersecretary of the Revenue Operations Group at the Department of Finance (DOF), supervising the operations of the BIR and Bureau of Customs to help ensure that the government is meeting its annual revenue collection targets.

He also worked as District Collector at the Port of Cebu from July 2019 to October 2022. Under his leadership, the Port of Cebu achieved record-breaking revenue collection and significant milestones in border protection. Also during his tenure, the Port of Cebu became the first customs collection district to have its main port and all subports ISO 9001:2015 certified.

Mendoza earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from San Beda University and placed third in the 2004 Philippine Bar Exam. He is a licensed geodetic engineer, having earned a degree in Geodetic Engineering from the University of the Philippines. Presidential News Desk
